This property as the other houses of this big estate straddles Tuscany and Emilia Romagna and is an excellent base for visiting the east of Italy; Ravenna with its wonderful Byzantine mosaics or Rimini where one of Alberti's more formal architectural projects, the Tempio Malatestiano, still stands. The Adriatic coast is about an hour away and Faenza, with its rich tradition of ceramics, is within half an hours drive. Bologna, Ancona or Rimini are better airports to fly to than Pisa or Florence though the latter can easily be reached by driving across the mountains to Marradi and taking the train. The Tosco-romagnolo Apennines are a beautiful area in their own right, with hidden villages, delicious restaurants and a wonderful feeling of discovery, as few people visit this area. Cycling, climbing and walking are well catered for, with some mountain passes climbing up to 1000 metres, between 1600 metre high mountains. Emilia Romagna is the region of good cooking: Tortellini, Parma ham, Parmesan cheese, Bolognese ragu', ravioli are all from this area. Tredozio itself, the small town at the foot of the hill, boasts a Michelin starred restaurant whose chef will come and cook for you. Tredozio also hosts concerts during the summer ranging from Jazz to Chamber music, and has tennis courts, shops and restaurants.
