In the heart of Mediterranean sea, this lovely Villa is located, exactly in the Plemmirio reserve, just a few kilometres from Siracusa, in an area known as località Penisola Maddalena, between Punta Castelluccio and Capo Murro di Porco, where traces have been found of ancient Greek and Roman shipwrecks.. This is a protected nature area, rich in Mediterranean vegetation, unique coastline and fine seabed of both naturalistic and archaeological interest. It is an ideal structure for those who want a holiday near the unspoilt sea of Plemmrio in complete privacy, with the art and culture of nearby Syracuse and the nightlife of Ortigia

The Villa is surrounded by a lovely garden with typical Mediterranean plants, in which the brightly coloured bougainvillea blends with the green caper plants to create cool, pleasant corners. The interiors are well decorated and comfortable, but certainly the focal points of the villa are its marvellous terraces, which offer a breathtaking view across the large bay and are the perfect places for memorable aperitifs at sunset.

The terrace nearest the sea has a stunning infinity pool that seems to blend with the blue of the reserve’s unspoilt sea. A handy staircase leads directly from this terrace to the rocky coastline below where swimming pool steps fixed to the rocks make it easy to reach the water.

Area Information

The name Siracusa comes from the Siculo (an ancient Sicilian tribe) word Syraka, and means ‘abundance of water’ – for the numbers of springs and rivers in the area. In the Greek era it was also known as Pentapoli, and was one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean, consisting of: Ortigia, Acradina, Neàpoli, Tiche ed Epipoli. In 2005, together with the cave necropolis of Pantalica, Siracusa was declared by UNESCO to be a world heritage site.

Siracusa is a town with a very ancient seafaring tradition, a cultural reference point for the Mediterranean area, dominated since ancient times by history and nature. Plemmirio is an ancient sea, where the Carthaginian belligerent fleets sailed together with the Greek and Roman trade boats. Still today there are clear evidences of this past, of which this sea is a jealous keeper: it offers us the opportunity to discover an underwater archaeological itinerary with fragments of pottery and amphora necks, wooden finds and anchors of various size. Another interesting underwater aspect is represented by the several caves dug in time in the bare white and calcareous rock. With spectacular sceneries and with their several inhabitants, they make our diving more evocative and magic. The extraordinary submerged seabed is very rich in any marine species populating the Mediterranean.

However, the Protected Area does not only mean sea. All around it, in a Mediterranean maquis dominated by the presence of the fan palm, life flourishes. Not far, in the wet and brackish area of the muddy lands, once saltpans, in spring and autumn we might admire the elegant and sinuous flight of the Greater Flamingo. And finally Siracusa, motherland and cradle of the Magna Graecia culture, present everywhere: in architecture, theater, gastronomy, people. Nature, culture, myths and tales find here their natural source and setting. There is also good swimming, and in certain parts of the reserve, fishing with rod and line is permitted. There is also the strong chance of seeing large fish and sea-mammals such as dolphins.

Due to the fact that many properties in this area can be accessed only by unsealed roads and driveways, we advise people intending to take a sports or low-slung car on holiday, to check with us first whether the access to the property allows for such a car. We advise against the use of vans and minibuses. Please always check with us at the time of booking if you are planning to use this type of vehicle when staying at a property in this area.

If your rental period is outside the period May 15th to September 30dt, please check with us that the pool can be opened. Swimming pools are not enclosed with fences and there are no lifeguards. Clients’ use of the swimming pool is at their own risk.

Usage will be metered throughout your stay and you will be charged accordingly. Charges must be paid directly on the spot to the owner or his/her representative before departing. Please note that heating in Italy, when not subject to restrictions by the local Government, is more expensive compared to other countries. If you look for a property in low season, make sure to ask for an estimate of the heating cost. You may be asked to make a supplementary deposit for heating expenses.

Water and Electricity

Please note that most of the properties in our portfolio are not the typical purpose-built Mediterranean holiday villas. Most are converted farmhouses or former manor houses, full of character and history. Water shortages do occur; please use it sparingly during the summer months. At the same time, Italy is probably one of the few countries in the world where the government has introduced a system of electricity limitators to contain the national consumption. This means you must be careful when using more than one appliance at once because the limitator will shut the electricity off.

Internet Connection

Many of our properties have an internet connection. From our experience, when a connection is interrupted due to technical reasons beyond our control, it is unfortunately very difficult, despite our efforts, to receive immediate assistance from some of the internet providers operating in Italy. We therefore strongly suggest that those who need to access their emails should bring their own BlackBerry, or a similar portable device. Please note that in any case we cannot accept responsibility for lack of these services.
